TIPS N’ TRIPS - Udaipur, the city of Lakes

If Rajasthan has my heart Udaipur captured my soul. India is the place where the heart always comes first, that can be easily seen in Udaipur, it is a spot for true romantics. It is often called the Venice of the East exactly for that reason and also due to its five gorgeous lakes. It is impossible not to fall in love with its floating palaces and the architecture of the city. Here are my top spots for the city, please note that a guide is highly recommended to get the most culture out of your visit experience.

#1 City Palace

It overlooks Lake Pichola and it is the largest maharana’s palace in Rajasthan. It is sand colored not the outside but don’t be fooled its five floor interiors are filled with colors and decorative art; from paintings to antique furniture. As you are there take a chance to stop by and see the Crystal Gallery, you will not regret it!

#2 Old City

There is nothing more astounding than visiting the small streets of an Indian city, where real life goes on, so make sure not to miss out on a walk and/or a TukTuk ride in the Old City. On the side note, Udaipur is famous for miniature art, and trust me when I say that the amount of details in those small paintings are actually astonishing. They are often made silk papers and old documents, so they can be easily brought back. No better place where to find them than the old city center.

#3 Ganesh Emporium

This is without any doubt the most stunning store I’ve ever seen. Located in a 200 year old renovated Haveli tucked away in the streets of Udaipur. Here you can find vintage textiles, arts, artifacts and Indian antiques. Last but not least you can find the most stunning accessories, bags and fashion items by @vipulsahabags it is literally impossible to walk out empty handed.

#4 Lake Pichola

Might look like an avoidable excursion, but trust me you wouldn’t want to miss out on this one. First of all there is nothing more stunning than seeing the palaces and city from the lake, just gives you such a magical and different perspective. Secondly, the lake is home to an island palace, Jag Mandir. Often used by renown families as a location for one of their numerous wedding receptions, the 17th century island is simply breathtaking with its sculptures and gardens.
